7.4" x 9.7"
Info: This piece tells the beginning of my own journey in art. Having originally been lead into the community through my mother's positive experiences, I did not know what to expect. I was given limited options for paths to pursue, with my given knowledge in other subjects, and I was taken aback by how stark the real 'starting point' in my art education was. |
7.4" x 9.7"
Info: I chose a road to go down at the start, and as I stuck with it, I learned that despite all the 'bright colors' that were shown to me, I still had doubts about myself and the community. I felt like I was out of balance more than half the time. The tight rope I was walking on could fall any second, and any progress I made may have been to waste. |
7.4" x 9.7"
Info: Here, I shine a literal spotlight on the idea that artists tend to ignore: relying on people, even if for a short moment, is beneficial to both parties. I always kept to my own business, not wanting to worry those around me. I gradually ran into more art blocks, or even felt like I couldn't continue onto make art. In those times, I found people to reach out to, and those close to me helped guide me in the right direction. I wouldn't be in the situation I am right now, if I didn't rely a little bit on my close friends and family members I trust. |

Info: Following a similar complementary color scheme and filtering technique to the previous work, this piece acts as an opposition. At times, instead of being bombarded with advice, or others' opinions on our lives, people should have time to be alone; To work with their own thoughts, and let their own decisions guide them. Depicted here, is a character simply participating in solo cirque du soleil. The title, 'Loner,' has an obvious denotation to it, from people outside of the character's perception. But if they only asked, they might get a blissfully at-peace person's view of life. |

Info: I love this piece. The colors shading their complements, the sketch-like lineart, lighting- every aspect illustrated here are so pleasing to me. This piece was finished later on in my investigation, and I applied what I learned in my previous pieces, into this one. I took the colored shading techniques and off-center composition, from featured pieces in museum sites, such as the Met. |

Info: Another piece I completed later on, I was practicing working with various textures and darkness. The cool colors of the foreground, contrasting with the lighter, cool character in the background make for an appealing color palette. I created this piece in a less positive state of mind, when I was on my Instagram home page, and the only people I saw were showing their acceptance letters to colleges I hadn't even heard of. They looked excited, and showed their great interest in their potential study. I was unsure of the path I had chosen a while ago, and the trite jealousy may have overtaken me. |
7.4" x 9.7"
Info: This is another work that I took directly from my sketchbook pages. I wanted to incorporate both cold and warm palettes, to communicate a blended message of indecision. This character sits center-stage, surrounded by warm light that illuminates themself. The hands are so pointedly, one might consider them to be giving advice, saying "Do this, do that," etc. The warm hands, contrast a dark background, alluding to something decietful. |

Info: The girl looks on to a painting. A large painting of a clown, one from the past, from their clothes. The audience can't see the expression of the girl- does she look on with disgust? Bliss? Envy? One may never know. However, this piece was my interpretation of the well-versed concept of remembering your influences. |
7.4" x 9.7"
Info: This was another piece that I thoroughly enjoyed, both in process and final product. My main idea to create it was a continutation to my first piece; A big idea or accepted person's values dictate how we all act, create, or communicate. Here, I experimented more with texture, color, and cool/warm values. The bright color palette, illuminated by colder surroundings looks to be a common theme of mine. |
